So happy I bought my 5D late last year instead of waiting for this (non) announcement.

I wasn't expecting the 800mm to be that expensive, but I wasn't expecting it to be that light either. Portability is huge!

Hmm I'm sad that there's no new 5D.

XSi is uhh.. ho hum? Sure I'd get it if I were new to market, but I see no compelling reason to upgrade to it from my XTi. I guess they couldn't upgrade it too much or it would compete with the 40D.

SD in a DSLR? Huh?

noticed that also. Someone upgrading from p&s will not need new cards but someone upgrading to XXD/XD will thou the 1D has a CF & SD slot. Nikon has a better idea with (2) CF slots. Since memory cards are so cheap it doesn't really matter.

The XTi was definitely due for a replacement. Canon did introduce 3 new cameras last year, so it doesn't surprise me to see no 5D replacement. I would think that a new 5D replacement would affect the sales of the 1DMIII's.

For those looking into an entry level camera, there are still plenty of XT's still around!

I'm itching to pick one of these up as a first time buyer.

So no XTi then and the 5D is exponentially more expensive.

Is the 40D still a better buy than this XSi?

Or should I save my cash and grab an XTi now that they'll be super cheap.
