Picking up a camera soon
Things are picking up and will have funding for either camera. My brother has the Canon 5D Mark II and I absolutely love it, than Canon released the Mark III and am yet to see that one as well. Can't imagine it being a lot better than the Mark II from readings reviews and specs, I've never stepped into Nikon. I used a D300S and liked how Nikon goes about their setup. Would like some opinions from you guys. Thanks

I voted Canon because I assume that there will be an event where the fact that you both use the EF lens system will come in handy.
The 21mp RAWs are a bit cumbersome to deal with. I don't want to imagine how much slower I'd go in post with 38mp RAWs.
But given that, the important question is what are you planning on photographing? Would you be better off buying a used 5D2 and using the extra money on glass?

Well this is hard choice... both are amazing cameras!!! I would get the Canon since I have Canon lenses already.... but if this was my first camera i would choose the Nikon over Canon at this point its like $500 cheaper to buy D800 over 5d Mark III
Do you absolutely have to have full frame? The 7D, which I have is a cropper, but really, really nice. (And cheaper than the 5DMkIII, new, never mind picking one up used). The money saved means you can pick up a few good lenses, like a 17-55 L IS II and a 50mm (or 40mm).

If cost is a concern I highly recommend the 5D2. I picked up a high mileage example (150k actuations) for $1200 a couple months ago. When the 5D3 came out the mk2s plummeted in price. I've had both Nikon and Canon over the years, while I think Nikon has a slight advantage in image quality, Canon pulls away with lens selection and cost.
