Otherwise known as the new filter. It has been a source of controversy here so I thought I'd go online and share some info.

The 85mm diameter filters that have been used on the S2k since its introduction are no longer available to us. If we try to order them we get the new 65mm one that was introduced on 2001 Civics. The new filter (I don't have one yet) is the only Honda filter that we are supposed to use for S2k's. The problem is that we are supposed to offer oil changes for all Hondas nationwide for $28.88 and the suggested retail on the new filter is $37.80 (Apparently the lowest my dealership will sell it for is just a smidge over $30)

This may mean that your local Honda dealer may try to substitute something else when you go in for an oil change, either because they don't know any better or because they're trying to stick with the national pricing.

For your engine's sake, insist on the correct filter. It is expensive, sure but it's still cheaper than an oil change on a Boxster or Z3.

40 BUCKS for an oil filter?????!!!!!!!
This has to be a typo. When I splurge, I get the Pure ONE for about 12 dollars. I think I'll stick with my 4 buck regular Purolator.

Will this change the "life time Oil Change" deal I got with my car? Since you do all the work on it anyways.

Also Gar - feel like pushin a 91 Talon indoors this Sunday?

FOUR DOLLARS?!?! You don't even get the Pure One every time?! Yeesh, do you know what a motor is worth in your car?! Do I need to continue ranting and talk about piston speeds and the importance of clean oil, or the flow rate of the oil pump at 8900rpm?!?! Anyway, to prove it isn't a typo, the retail price is thirty-seven dollars and eighty cents Canadian.

Well Warren, since I do all the S2k work there and I won't use any other filter on the car, I guess that card will pay for itself faster than you thought!!

Sunday looks good.

Gary, I mean no disrepect to you or your dealership and I don't mean to lesson your point about clean oil, either.
I have done several oil analysis on my engine. Some have been with the regular Purolator, some with Pure ONE and they all come back about the same - all within acceptable limits of wear, contamination, etc. I am comfortable in the knowledge that even a regular Purolator with a 5000 km change interval is quite adequate. My oil analysese show that any other more expensive filter is just overkill for my change interval.

Probably a similar reason why my '04 rear spoiler cost me a total of $645.00 to my door while a Calgary dealer was about to charge me almost $1000.00.

ps. The "special" oil filter for my old ZR-1 Vette cost $18.00. I was special because it had valves in it so it could be mounted upside down and when you removed it, no oil came out. Anyway you look at it, 40 BUX for an oil filter is a lot excessive.

Wow. I have no idea how they can do it. I know what the cost is on the PCX and it is way more than double $6US.

If I came across as lecturing, sorry Dave. I just tend to lean toward paranoia with oil and oil changes. D'you use synthetic?
