Default Black exhaust tips

I was doing an oil change today when I noticed my exhast tips were really black. I thought the car maybe running a little rich, but haven't had much time to look into it. Does anybody else have this problem?

Every S2000 I have detailed, including the one I used to own had black sooty tips to a certain extent or another. My 97 Prelude had the same issue, and having driven behind it and the S2000 on occasion, I noticed that upon the driver reaching VTEC at WOT, it was not uncommon to see a burst of black smoke, lasting maybe 1/2 second at the most as VTEC engaged.

Better to run a tad rich than a tad lean IMO. But then what do I know!?

Eugene, like Asif has alluded to, this car is "mapped" to run RICH, especially during the warm up phase. You could extract a few more WHP if you leaned it out with a VAFC.

Hey guys, it's been a while. I've been stuck driving a Ford all winter but now that the weather is nice, it's time to bring out the S2. Asif, that Richoche really works. Not only does it prevent chips on the coverage, but it seems to also bounces the rocks away as they hit.

Thanks for the info. I didn't notice any preformance loss either so I guess I have nothing to be concerned about.

Good to hear. I told you to go for the "good" stuff didn't I? Glad you're happy with it.
