As for MPI I talked to them today and they said they are going to have an adjuster take a look at it and they should know within 5-7 days the extent of the damage.

Yep, that's done. If they say otherwise, fight it. The unibody is bent. Always go back for a second opinion on value too, they always lowball you on the first offer.

Crazy to think that the interior door panel broke when your girlfriend's hip/leg smashed into it... Ouch.

Basically the 'frame' of the car. The fenders/bumpers/doors/etc. can be replaced, but if the unibody that they bolt on to is bent then there's little they can do to fix it. Shops can pull it back to something closer to straight, but there's a limit.
