Default DRL

I need to install DRL on my car but Dieter from Yellowhead Honda said US 2005 wiring is different than the Canadian 2005 S2K, therefore it's not recommended to install DRL on the US car. He said the US 2005 car is not meant to have DRL. Is this true? Has anyone wired DRL on a US car before?

DRL's can be added to any car... but adding the "factory" DRL's is probably not easily done. Canadian Tire can do DRL's pretty easily for you.

Is Dieter pulling your leg (maybe BMW's are his forte)? Or is he not recommending this because the dealership doesn't like the fact that you bought your vehicle state side? I just had DRL's installed at Calgary Honda in January on a '05 S2000 imported from the states for $300.00. He is right, there is a difference in the wiring harness from the US to the Canadian model but it can be done without any major problem. The big difference is the DRL's are not on at half intensity, add a relay and away you go. Of course there is no DRL idiot light in the dash and no DRL module which functions the lights at half intensity. You can get a kit to do this from a company in Burlington Ontario, (the OEM manufacturer of the DRL module) but unless you want to start rewiring I wouldn't recommend it.

Maybe Dieter needs the phone number for Calgary Honda's service department, they can refer him to the Honda electrical service manual page that shows the wiring schematic.

Isn't Yellowhead the dealership where Gary works? Maybe he could give Dieter a hand.

That was the best post I've read on here in a while.

If you have any wiring knowledge you can easily do it yourself. Took me an evening and i had mine working fine. Just need 2 relays, some wire, and some splicers.

haha.. well looks like I should have no problem getting this done. The reason I dont want to do it at canadian tire because they might not know what they are talking about. I assumed Honda would be the best bet.

Heh heh. Odd that. You might have talked to Daryl... He's the only person who starts with a "D" in our parts department. We've installed a number of aftermarket DRL kits on various cars, though not an "S" yet. I presume the easiest will be to have the HID's come on...

If you want it done, we'll do it. If you want me to handle it, just ask for me when you're here! It'll be nice to be able to put a face to the handle!

Which one do you work in Gary? Millwoods Honda? I just e-mailed honda. I was THAT lazy at work not to call but just e-mail. I dont think I would want my HID to run all the time. I believe the canadian S2K dont have it on their HID only. Maybe the high beams? Or some kind of arrangement where it takes half of each? I have no clue.

Would you happen to know how much the kit is?

Gary works at Yellowhead Honda.

The DRL's need to basically be the highbeams at half power.
