Is anyone interested in having an S2000 club Performance Driving School?

Currently I am teaming up with the Evolution Performance Driving School from the US and hoping to host various Evo Schools across Canada.

Thus far the Winnipeg Sports Car Club has one booked and there will likely be one for the Calgary Sports Car Club and for the Cdn. National Autoslalom Championship.

This is not to say that there cannot be marque-specific schools. Some of the Evo Instructors have S2000's and compete in them and surely can give some interesting pointers on the handling characteristics of these cars and how to make them (and you!) go faster, handle better and safer even in street driving conditions.

Another idea would be to share with another marque - say Miata.....ensuring that there would be enough participants.

Let me know if there is interest in this school.....suggest a Phase 1 for starters....and maybe even a Phase 2.

I'm in. Depending on my schedule and the price of course.

Right now, I'm just looking to see if there is interest.

If there is sufficient initial interest, then we can book a date and go for it.

The schools are one day each (Phase 1, 2, 3, etc.), 8-5 pm or so....... You spend a lot of time behind the wheel.....except for lunch break.

A date would be best set in August.....although there are still dates available in May, June and July. Generally the earlier dates in the year go fast and later in the season school dates are, hence, easier to get with a few exceptions (e.g. Sept. 22-end of Sept. when the SCCA Solo 2 Nationals take place - good luck getting any of the instructors then - won't happen!).

If we get enough initial interest fairly quickly, I could try to book an earlier date - say June/July.

The cost would be approximately $300 per phase (per day essentially)......or $600 for Sat./Sun. Final nos. are a bit variable due to changes in currency/exchange rate, flights, and locations of instructors.

In the past instructors have come from all corners of the continent - Texas, N. Carolina, California, Washington/Seattle, Portland, Georgia, etc. etc.

It is a very interesting experience to see how each instructor has their own unique method and way of teaching. Some of the driving techniques are slightly different. Some individuals can reach different individuals etc. You can learn from them all.

Oh, and what would you get out of it?

1. Fun
2. Spend some time driving the cars like they were stolen with some other nuts who happen to own similar cars.
3. Increase your ability to handle your car at the limits......and perhaps beyond.....in a safe environment......no tickets, injuries, and a miniscule possibility of damage/accidents/major wear on your vehicle.
4. Increase your limitations on handling your car.
5. Learn some valuable skills to help keep you and your car (and maybe even family) free of dents.
6. Get a whole new appreciation for driving.....performance driving that is.
7. Spend some time with some of the, argueably, best drivers anywhere - for cheap!
8. Learn something(s) from the best. When I first took an Evo School, I reasoned for myself (with about 2 decades of competition under the belt), that if I learned one thing it would be worth taking the school. Within the first 5 minutes the instructors pointed out a couple of flaws in my driving techniques. I was shocked and have been convinced of the value of the Evo School system for literally anyone.
9. Unlearn bad driving habits that creep in. Even I have noticed that bad habits return almost without notice.
10. Receive a load of one-on-one coaching literally throughout the day(s). Question: "Why do gold medal athletes need coaches?"

So there you have it. There is much to gained for all of us by taking one (or more) of these schools. I'm sure there is much more that can be said for the schools but I think that is a good start.

Think about it. Do you want to be a better driver? Do you want to enjoy your car more? Do you want to have some fun with your S?

Sounds expensive, but I think it's some of the best value out there. I had a great time at the school Reijo put on in June 05, and I improved my driving skills more than any other single weekend of driving.
