if you DID have a "gear selection indicator" would you have time to see it???
i think it would slow shifting process as a whole.

I was having a bit of trouble getting used to the car initially, until I finally learned how to use this gearshift. I was trying to steer the gearshift myself and that didn't work for me. I have since discovered that the transmission will help you select the proper gear, if you let it. The selector is spring loaded and self centering. When I am shifting from five to four, as an example, I pull the selector towards me and it pops into neutral, then I continue to pull it and it's in fourth. I tend to guide the selector with an open palm, rather than grabbing the knob and putting it into gear. I push or pull the knob with my palm or fingers with an open hand, so I don't get too carried away. Shifting this way can be done very quickly and you won't have any mis-shifts, either.

The only gear that I have trouble with is sixth, and I have to be very aware that I'm shifting into sixth and make a special effort to push the selector away from me while I'm pulling it back, otherwise, it tends to want to go into fourth. For me this is awkwards, because my arm doesn't want to pull and also push away from me (towards the passenger) at the same time.

I hope that this makes sense,
Bob

Was your passenger of the opposite gender, perhaps?

I don't think about it either, except for sixth gear.

It seems that I've been doing a lot of this lately (topless driving) and I have quite a tan already. Just in time to go to the track on Friday to watch the practice, if Mother Nature will cooperate.

Now to try to encourage the women to partake in (topless driving) even if they don't have a convertible
