Also, as a note, getting that recall letter is actually quite difficult. Several times I've heard and experienced when Honda USA wouldn't issue the recall letter, add to this that RIV could refuse to accept a dealer letter as a recall letter. My point, make sure you get that recall letter before you do anything else.

Recall clearance letter was very easy for me to get.

Walked into Honda dealer, asked them for it. The service manager had done it many times before and knew exactly what to do. A dealer CAN provide the recall clearance letter. It must:
-State "This vehicle does not have any outstanding recalls" (or if it does, it must say so and list them with their work order #s)
-Have Honda's corporate logo on it
-Have the dealer's address
-Be signed by a manager

Thunderbirds are go. Searail said my documentation looks sound and they're picking up my car later this week. Took off my front lip and side strakes to meet the minimum ground clearance requirement (4"). Will post more when it's shipped.

Cool, my car just got picked up yesterday. I'm going for searail also. I barely cleared the truck, dunno how it'll fare when it's going on the rail. It's been dropped about 1.5 inch.

Aside from the actual work of importing, fees, and getting paperwork together, is it difficult to get a bank to loan you money for a car you're going to be bringing up from the U.S.?

It shouldn't matter. If you have good credit, you'll get approved. Plus most people have a home equity line of credit which they have access to.

Shit, you shipped Searail?

Good luck... They took my car for a joyride, added a fair bit of mileage, parked it ON a curb when they delivered it, cheated on the customs clearance (made me do a lot of legwork they claimed they would do) and now they refuse to pay for all damages or return my calls. It's more expensive to sue them than to fix it myself though, so I'm SOL.

See www.searailsucks.com.

haha funny. You replied to my June post. My car was here and gone.. Searail was actually not too bad for me. Under the front bumper was a bit scratched because it's lowered. Otherwise everything was very good. In the end I still think I should've just bought a one way ticket and drive back. I'll save more money that way...
