Default License Plate frames illegal?

I had to drop by the local police station to fill out a report since a lady backed into my car and gave me a 12" dent in my rear quarter panel while it was parked.
Anyways, while the officer was filling out the report he asked me why I had the licence plate frame on. I said it is decorative. He said, well it is illegal, I can give you $170 fine for that but since you look like a decent guy it will be a warning.
Take it off now and slow down and I'll be okay
I don't know what slow down had to do with anything but didn't know our S2000 International license plate frames are illegal

They're illegal if it covers up any of the stickers and/or printed writing on the plate (even the wild rose country part of it)

Hheheh, that's funny. The last time I went to a police station to fill out a report (for a break-in on my 240SX), the officer behind the counter threatened to write me a ticket for having some old expired insurance pink slips in my wallet. Apparently it's illegal to operate a motor vehicle and have expired insurance slips (even though the current, valid slip was right next to it).

Like you, I was "let off with a warning". It's always a pleasure to go down and report a crime to the police.

Chris.

ahha, that is funny, while I was pulling out my current pink slip I still had the old ones in my wallet too, guess he missed that part. Wonder what else is illegal that we will be harrashed for when showing up to file a report.

No offense Asif but the police don't give me the warm fuzzies anymore

There are good guys and not so good guys in every profession... We're just lucky that one of the good guys chooses to continue associating with us!!!

Let's face it, most mechanics don't give me the warm fuzzies either!

Danny,

I've never really imagined law enforcement as a "warm and fuzzy" type occupation to begin with, but as Gary said it best....there are all types of people in every line of work.

Que Sera Sera I guess.

Good thing I showed up in my work clothes to file that report. If not he might have walked outside and hassle me over my exhaust and ride height
