Default Moving to Winnipeg

I will be moving to Winnipeg in 3-4 weeks. I would love it if anyone could give me some information about condo rentals in downtown area. Or any kind of information regarding how to find a rental apartment/condo.

Thanks!

At this point I can't give you any recommendations because I don't know the market here. However I can give you some insight as to the quality of areas you might be interested in.

I don't want you moving in to a dump or high crime area.

Have you done any research? If so list some addresses and I'll provide some opinions. I'll even be prepared to take some photos for you.

Are you moving for work, and if so where is the work? We may find you accommodations near your work.

Bob

Ouch! you make it sound like he is heading to Purgatory or something. Hey at least it's a dry cold.

Oh yeah, we still have snow for the Olympics. Now if we only had a hill. . .

I would recommend finding a cool loft in the Exchange district. It is home to some of the most wicked buildings in the country and there are some pretty cool lofts.

It is right downtown and walking distance to most places.

People always put Winnipeg down but the exchange is a friggen jewel!

I've talked to a couple people that came from Winnipeg and they suggested not to live downtown. They said it wasn't worth the living cost because there isn't all that much in downtown anyways, and if you rent outside of downtown it will be much cheaper and still very accessible to downtown etc.

I looked at a loft in the exchange district, it was nice but pricey...

I will be working near the airport and having a short commute is very important to me too. I will not be taking my S2000 with me, i will likely purchase a Honda Fit when i get there... will that be adequate for the winter weather (equipped with snow tyres)? Also, would it be cheaper to purchase the car in WPG vs Vancouver?

I've never been to Winnipeg, but I imagine winters there are like winters in Edmonton and across the prairies....plenty of people drive Fits all over the place. With winter tires, you'll be just fine, but definitely get a dedicated set of winter tires as opposed to trying to muddle through the winter on compromised all season tires. It's not so bad when the weather settles down and the roads are clear, but when the snow comes down hard, it's downright dangerous not to be on winter tires, IMO.

Winnipeg can't be that bad, right?

Also, even if you live downtown the commute to the airport doesn't take that long does it?

So far, I have narrowed it down to river heights, corydon area. Are there are new rentals around this area?
