my trip to vernon and back
i just got back and ithought i would share my recent and first experience for spending some time behind the wheel of the "s"in the rocky mountains. to summarize the trip was 2200km (6 days) top was down the entire time, fantastic scenery, and i loved the way the "s" performed. i tip my hat to the vast number of people pedalling. the grades and heat are certainly character building.
went west of reddeer to highway 1 via kicking horse pass. at golden i saw a siver "s" with a carbon fibre hood and front spoiler. a few of the locals were getting their cars ready for this weekend's show and shine. one of the cars(VERY SMALL) was a very unusal bmw..engine was in the back and the only door was in the front. to get in, the door swung sideways as did the steering wheel.dash, controls etc. it did have four wheels but quite easily mistaken for just three. there is some highway construction(delays)at/near revelstoke. at salmon arm saw a white "s" which was in a hurry and at vernon saw a black "s". three was all i saw the entire trip. vernon had the mopar show at the ranch and there was some very nicely restored muscle cars. headed east of vernon on highway 6 to naskup/kaslo/balfour ferry to creston and imo. this is where the best spirited driving part of the trip was. lots of highway signs posting 50,60 km corners. even a few at 20,30. from what i remember the straight sections aren't long enough to allow another corner. lots of trees up to the shoulders with hidden corners and a couple of ferry rides to ease things up. an excellent stretch to test your driving ability. i am sure this highway has had a few scary accidents though. at windemere i met a couple from florida who have a my01with 2000km.(it is still in florida).
the trunk was big enough, seat was comfortable, scenery was great, didn't have any mechanical problems and i saw some rubber necks.

Sounds like you had a great trip, and not to mention you ran into as many S2000's as I've seen in the last two weeks here in town! (I suspect the Silver was XViper's??)
Nonetheless, the drive to the Okanagan is always beautiful. It's great to watch the terrain and plantlife change so quickly from Alberta into BC. I do however find the hike south on Highway 93 from Sicamous so very tiring. Slow speedlimits, small towns, and not to mention keen Mounties sure make it hard to ring out the best from a car like the S2000.
Glad you enjoyed the experience!
