Clutch and brake fluid has never been changed, I'll get on to that along with the valve adjustment.

What exactly does adjusting the valves do for the car?

you're ensuring that they're all uniformly adjusted... a high revving engine tends to put them out of alignment a lot quicker than most engines...

I know that when I had it done, it got rid of a noisy vavle-rattling sound I had at idle...
