Default Powertrain Warranty Question

Crowfoot just called me and told me that my pressure plate in the clutch is gone and that they will have to replace the clutch $ 1300 , I thought that this would be a powertrain issue , can anybody comment on this ?......Thanks The car has 63000K and is a 2000

Hey J, sorry to hear of your situation. Unfortunately, clutches, in general, are never a warranty item because they are "wear" items and can get "worn out" at rates dependent upon owner use. However, Honda had been replacing clutches on a TSB for clutch "rattle" and have done this more as a courtesy. It may be too late for you now, but you should have gone to Honda West where they have been known to replace worn out clutches on the basis of this clutch rattle. One of our Calgary owners (you've met him) had exactly this done not long ago at 40,000 km. They'll replace a clutch for the rattle but NOT if you've taken the car in for some other clutch issue. Go figure. Try to appeal to their "humanity" although I doubt Crowfoot will give in. Then maybe try to do a deal. Is the car taken apart? Driveable? If it is, take it somewhere else - another Honda dealer maybe or even go to a local mechanic. It shouldn't cost $1300.00. You might even consider PMing ITR_Gary in Edmonton (you've met him too). He's a mechanic with a Honda dealer and a good friend to local S2000 owners.

I actually took it in assuming it was warranty , because that is what they said , it would be no prob , that they had to do some prelim things , then run the hondacom and verify it , then they called . 500ish parts and 700 labor, I am assuming it taken apart now , I called the service mgr to further look into , Honda canada said that perhaps someting may be able to happen since is it so close to 60,000 but is it likely just a main issue , either way I am going to all angles to keep this as painless as possible !

..and you could actually feel the stickyness on the pedal , so i am sure any dealer would have picked up on the cue , rattle complaint or not

Are they giving you the clutch plate for free and only charging you for the pressure plate? If so, you might consider going aftermarket on those things you need to pay for anyway. Since you were planning to put the car away soon anyhow, you can probably wait for the parts to arrive. Unless of course, you're OK with the stock setup.

I don't think you have to buy Honda if they're not giving them to you on warranty. I'll PM you some leads.
