Huh? Mine does.
If your TV says 1080i (which both of mine do when a 1080i source is being used) this simply means it's taking a 1080i signal and displaying it in whatever progressive scan format it wants to... generally 720p.

LCD's have pixels, not scan lines... so 1080i (i = interlaced) cannot be displayed on an LCD.

My LCD does 1080p

"upscaling" is kind of a joke... you cant improve picture quality... if the picture information isn't there, it isn't there.
i always thought upscaling was a scam too but i picked up a phillips upconverting dvd player for real cheap cause my old one died. I ran my high end component cable out from it to my lcd and the picture was ok. So I decided to connect using my HDMI cable (that was for my shaw pvr) to it for a comparison. The dvd player automatically "upscales" when the HDMI cable is connected. So I compare the same dvd movie with the component cable and the HDMI cable and I could actually see the difference in the color and sharpness. Like I said I always thought this upscaling was a gimmick but it made enough difference for me to go buy another HDMI cable.
