Default Warranty group buy questions

As stated by xviper in another area:

Recently, a few people in the Toronto area did a GB on this extended warranty and they managed to get the price down to UNDER $600.00 CANADIAN.
I eventually will want to buy the warranty. What is the time limit from the initially NEW vehicle purchase to get the warranty. I would want the 7yr/160K warranty as I have put on 25,000 in the first year. I also would like to buy the warranty at the latest possible time so I can see what the (IF) new 2004/2005 model will be. It might be a good idea to buy the warranty so the car would be easier to sell; however It would be more logical to get the new owner to buy the warranty so they have the option to sell the car again carrying the warranty over. It is my understanding that the warranty can be carried over only once.

Yes, it can only be transferred once. We can get that price from a Toronto dealer. I was told when I bought my car that I had until the day before the 2nd anniversary of my purchase date to buy the warranty.

When I purchased the vehicle, Calgary Honda said that I had 60 days from the time of purchase to get the extended warranty...bastards. It was because of S2KI that I found out the truth.

I can speak from experience. I just purchased a 2000 Black (with red leather) S2000 back in February (a dream of mine for the last 4 years since seeing the SSM). One of my concerns when buying it was the fact that it didn't have the extended warranty. Don't get me wrong, I've owned new Hondas for the last 15 years and never really had any serious problems with them. But the odd repair here and there (that would have been covered by the extended warranty) would have saved me some bucks and easily paid for the extended warranty. So...I talked with one of the business managers (Mike) at Honda West to see if I was still eligible to buy the 7 year/140,000 warranty seeing as it was a 2000 and I was not the original owner. He said no problem! If memory serves, the cost ended up being $1510 plus GST. Honda West even offered to take the amount and divide it by 6 so I have around $269 charged to my Visa every month for the next 6 months (with no interest). A lot of money to shell out but for a bit of peace of mind, it's worth it. The only bad part is that I am essentially paying for the last 3 years even though I didn't own the car. The 7 years starts from the "in service" date. From what I could find out through Honda USA you have 42 months after the in service date before the offer expires. I have never heard of the "transfer only once" thing before, I'll have to check my paperwork on the warranty. Hope this helps!

Mike.

I believe the Finance Manager receives commission on the extended warranty packages? It is so evil, you hammer a deal with the salesman, you go see the Finance Manager and you get asked about the protection packages and extended warranty! haha Just when you thought you had the best deal lol

Anyway, I have the 6 year 100 000km warranty on my car. I got the car used and its still at 18***kms, it'll be a long way before 100 since I don't plan to drive it through winter!! The comprehensive 3 year/60K was ending so I just got them to add the cost ($850?) onto the contract

I got mine when i purchashed the car knowing all the engine failures and tranny problems. Good insurance and if you don't use it after 7 years, you get your $ back.

Now now watch what you say about Finance Managers....
If your interested in the Honda Plus Extended Warranty let me know. I'm also going to be purchasing the 3 year/60,000km pre-owned warranty plan. Unfortunately my car just fell out side the new car plan which is limited temporarily to 2001 and newer models (special promotion from Honda and could be cancelled at any time). Normally you have 60 days to purchase a new car warranty after which the pre-owned program is your only option.
For the record I work in the business office at T&T Honda and will help you out with the options and pricing.

Yes, but only if you purchase it when you purchase the car.
