Shel,

See for me, I find this whole "Halloween" gig culturally bizarre. Having grown up in the UK, we never went trick-or treating as children. From what I remember, the two or three "kids" we used to have come to our house were acne-infested squid-jiggers who would play a prank on us no matter what the potential reward. Obtaining free candy or treats was never the function of trick or treating. Egging houses or squirting unaware home owners with a water gun full of food colouring was always the norm. I still find it kinda puzzling how these rug-rats go from door to door in sub-zero temperatures just to get free confectionary. Surely their parents can afford to buy them some?

We had about 100-120 kids. Mix of very young and pre-teen, but like xviper said, the very young ones are the most fun. We had one little kid, could not have been older than 2 dress up as a pink elephant...it was very funny (I guess you had to see her)....

I kept all the Reeses pieces and peanut butter cups to myself though...there are limits.

My last trick or treating year was when I was 14. It's just so damn fun and a good way to meet you neighbors and get to know which houses to avoid (big meanies!). I don't even like candy all that much...it was just fun to run around with friends to see who can get the most candy. We'd start at 4 pm after school and go till 8 pm...get about 20-35 lbs of candy.

Best treat I ever got was money. Worst was some drunk dude gave me a hand full of sunflower seeds that he was eating...yuck.

I miss trick or treating.. thankfully I go with my little niece and I kinda get that little rush of running up to houses.
