Unhappy Map Sensor Removal - Replacement

I read through this map sensor issue that seems to make some of our s2k's sluggish between 5-6k rpms. What is this map sensor and has anyone in the area done anything with theirs? Problems? Anyone?
(I might be crazy... or just comfortably numb)

-this is where i was reading around...

it measure the amount of air entering your engine... most FI cars need someone to trick the sensor when they are boosting... i.e. missing link.

it's just bolted on by two screws... are you experiencing the sluggishness issue? try smacking it with the soft end of a screwdriver to see if that helps.

Hello Guys,

I'm fairly new to the s2ki site. My s2000 does not idol well at all. It starts at 1k rpms then drops from time to time to as low as 500. It's a year 2000 with 75k miles on it, so I'm thinking it could use a new MAP Sensor. Am I right here or should I be looking at something else??? I just replaced all my spark plugs and had my valves adjusted.

Matt

My S idles right around 500-600 so that doesn't sound too weird... well at least when I've warmed it. Yeah the map sensor might help a little but is probably the most benefitial at 2K-5K RPM, is where the reading seems to be a little whack. Take the handle side of a screw driver and tap on a it a few times it seems to knock some SENSE into it... lol. If you don't know what the map sensor is or where, its the little black sensor ontop of your throttle body where the intake comes in. It will say denso in small letters on it if its the original map sensor. So i think. Try that and see if it you get any response, do this with the motor off. Is the car idling steady or is it speratic??? Or why is it you think its idling weird? -the car will test the temperature of the surroundings and adapt to it. Mine starts up in the 1K range and settles into a 500-600 rpm idle as i was saying I think thats normal unless it keeps jumpin once its warmed.

Thanks for the information whsnxts2k. The rpms are constantly jumping around even after the car is warmed up. I have also had it die on me at stop lights (although this is fairly rare). I'll try gently knocking some sense into it!

Thanks again,
Matt
