Default pics of paint problem under windshield tape

its hard to get a good shot, but i think you can see the scratches on the paint. its more apparent at the top of the shot.

the columns look fine, its only accross the top of the windshield. all i can figure is that they score the surface to make the tape hold. it is very superficial and am hoping i can get it buffed out.

It's hard to tell without seeing it firsthand, but could it be residual adhesive?

If so, try 3M automotive adhesive remover (available in a auto paint store or good hardware store) if it is.

If not and it is in the paint, try Meguiers fine cut cleaner on a cotton cloth. It's a very mild polishing compound that with some elbow grease will take out minor imperfections. You could go to something more aggressive if that seems to be working but going to slowly.

It has been well documented by board members going back to when the car first came out that when you pull this tape off, you are taking your chances. Some folks have found the paint to be just fine while others have found it terribly flawed. Did you not know that this could have been a possibility? The trouble is, once you start, you have to keep going and take what you get when the tape is off. Some guys have just taken it to a paint shop and had it re-painted. I don't think it cost much. You're lucky that it can be buffed out.
