[Cheap] Soft Top hole repair
I've been nursing along my soft top since I bought it 5 years ago, spending the savings for a new top on other things. So far its terrible looking but leak free, cheap and easy. There was a learning curve so I figured I would share for those whose budget is tight.
To make up for it, my S almost never has the top up. It only goes up when caught out in the rain.
Tips:
Don't bother with kits and vinyl repair glues, I've tried a ton and all were terrible. Loctite Ultra Gel is the only stuff I've tried that is strong enough to last for years.
Rubberized coatings that you paint on are almost worthless, can't take the flexing.
Scrub the inside where you places patches with alcohol and a rag.
Always use good gloves when handing super glue. Not just for keeping off your skin, but you need to be able to apply pressure with your fingertips for up to a minute while it cures. If your glove gets glued to the inside of your top, no worries :-) Microflex Diamond
Patch material is as simple as an outdoor grill cover for a few bucks.
If your rear window is cracking, replace your top or put something in it so it doesn't crack further. I used rivets and as ugly as it is, it worked perfectly.
