AP1 Headlight (Moisture Intrusion)
Hello my name is Jon, I recently got stationed in North Carolina and now the constant rain (it rains at least once a week here) has started taking a toll on my headlights. After our last large thunderstorm a large amount of moisture developed inside my passenger headlight. It appears the moisture damaged my ballast and caused both the low and high beams for the headlight to stop working. While I have a new ballast on the way for that problem, there's still quite a large amount of moisture still inside the headlight. I plan on buying a new set of OEM headlights toward the end of this year, but in the meantime I'd like to try to find some sort of way to fix the issue. Attached are two photos of the damage. Does anybody know a good way to get the moisture out of the headlight and also a good method of repairing the fogging issue on the outside of the headlight?
Easy way is, take light bulbs out and let it dry for a while (may be a day or two in sunny dry weather). you could also use blow dryer from outside.
if that doesn't work, harder way is, taking it apart using oven method. This method was used long ago when cleared side was popular. search for related topic for detail. I short, take the headlight out (requires taking bumper and other components out), put in in a oven for a while, split apart the headlight cover and the back, and then put it back together using silicon glue. you'd clean it while it's apart.
