Arch corrosion
Hi
I have bought a 2002 AP1 which needs a little tlc, the main problems are the roof needs replacing, I have the car booked in next week for a new mohair roof.
The other problem is the rear arch has corrosion around half the arch and at some points have gone through. The car is booked in at the paint shop the week after next
Is this common for the s2000 to rust here? any other body paint issues?
Anyone know the causes as to why?
Thanks
Mark

Hi there,
My AP1 2001 was rusting on the rear arches when I purchased it.
I did this:
Jack car up, place on stands, remove rear wheels
Carefully pressure washed the whole of the arch until it was clean.
Finely wire brushed the rust off the arch being careful not to scrap any paintwork visible
Applied several good layers of waxoyl to the arch and underside, including the arch lip, being very careful not to get any waxoyl on the visible parts of the arch.
I then applied underseal once the waxoyl was dry.
It has set like a rock and I haven't seen any more rust coming through, I havent a garage and the car is outside 100% of the time.
Whilst I was doing this I also decided to do the cills as a precaution.
Make sure the rubber arch liners are removed, these trap dirt and moisture speeding up the rusting process.
I am very tempted later this year to give the car to a body shop, have them steam clean the underside and them properly seal it all. Where abouts in the UK are you from?
Hope this helps
Mike

The rubber lips that go on the arches are the source of the problem, S2000's that don't have them don't tend to rust. Honda has had the problem on many models and it is always related to the rubber lips. Mine have been removed for a long time. After you get yours fixed don't reinstall the rubber lips. I have sealed my arches with rubberized rockerguard to help reduce stone chips which the rubber lips were meant to protect.

Hi
yes mine has a strip inside the arch, so its best not to reinstall the lip then
