Default Can this be salvaged?

This has been like this since I bought the car over a year ago, but it (among MANY other blemishes) is really starting to bother me.

I've seen the threads about "Mulderized" headlights, and I plan on doing the same. But I want to make sure it is even worth the effort first:

My plan was to wet sand 800 Grit -> 1200 -> 1500 -> 2000

But I am not very familiar with the rubbing compounds and polishes. I have access to a buffing wheel, but I'm not really sure what to look for at the store as far as compounds and polishes. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Dont do 800!!!

I would start at 2000.

When using a 3M compound you need:
Compound #1 + wool pad
Compound #2 + foam pad
Compound #3 + black foam pad

tape off your bumper so you dont melt your bumper abd dont go that fast so you dont melt your lens.

Take it slow and stready.
PM me if you need more tips + phone call

Do you think 2000 is enough to get through that scrape?

you can also start with 1200 then finish it with 2000 to try and get rid of that scratch I wouldn't go any lower grit then that

After talking to a few people, and consulting a couple different DIY's, I did the following:

1000 grit, 1500, 2000, 3000. Finished with polishing with a pad from a headlight restoration kit, followed by PlasticX. Results are great, it is crystal clear, looks like new (or better). The scratch in the right headlight is all but gone. I'm beginning to think that it might be an internal stress crack, because it isn't on the surface at all. Overall, I'm very happy with the outcome. I'm still undecided on what to do for UV protection. Either spray them with clear coat, or get some vinyl film.

I appreciate all the input. I'll post pics of the results here in a little while.

Good job.

Clear coat them.

Vinyl will keep heat in and crack the lens'

Here are the final results:

Once I get the front bumper re-painted, she'll start looking like a nice car
