Default Does this indicate my car has been resprayed?

Hey guys,

I was looking at my S2K the other day and noticed some lines near the door jambs and I was wondering if these indicate that this section of the car has been resprayed previously? The outside section is raised (so the inner door jamb section is lower than the edge). Or is this due to polishing (but that would mean someone only polished the inner door jambs...which sounds odd)? This is on the drivers side; the passenger side has no such lines. All 10 VIN tags are still present and there is no history of any accidents on the car fax (I have owned this for 3 or 4 years now, bought from a previous single owner who was a Grandma; I've noticed these lines before but never thought about them being due to a respray until recently). I do not have the original owner's contact information anymore to ask, although I could potentially do some digging to find it. Previous mechanic inspections have all indicated the car is sound and has no indication of any damage or related issues. Owner was pretty straightforward with some other body panel issues (mostly dings, chips, and dents), so I would be surprised if she forgot to mention a respray. Thanks! Just trying to gather all information for the car, as I might potentially sell it to purchase a lower mileage model.

Could be a tape line from a respray and no one wet sanded it to blend it in. May also be the line from paint film being applied. Since it's only on the one side, I'd guess paint tape line from a respray.

Also, check the inner side of the door, good chance it has the same lines.

Strangely enough, I did not see these lines on the door, but would make sense if there were (maybe the door was resprayed along with the surrounding panel). Ill double check tonight.

Seems like a sloppy masking job. What does the the top portion of the quarter panel look like?

If you have access to a paint meter, it could help clarify it has been painted.

VIN tags are commonly over-sprayed but since they're neither visible (or spray-able) with the doors, hood, and trunk closed the tag be unmolested and the car an entirely different color. Overspray or paint on them? -- yeah the car has been at least partially oversprayed. Pristine tag? ...

Yeah, gonna buy one and test the panels out, that seems the easiest than trying to guess.

Yeah all 10 VIN tags are pristine/original. But you are correct, for this particular section you wouldn't have to touch the VIN tags at all anyways. The door on the same side doesnt have any of these spray lines and the VIN is also untouched. So maybe just a portion of this quarter panel was touched up.

Looks good, identical to the other side. The mask line seems to fade at the very top, and there are none at the top of the panel where the panel meets the black trim, although I might look into popping off the black trim to look underneath.
