Hey guys, I'm new to the s2k community as I just purchased my first s2000. Heh, finally bought one of my dream cars for a decent price. I'm loving the car so far, and just finished doing all the new owner type maintenance on it, so now its time to get the car looking how I want to. The previous owner cut the rear fenders and installed fender flares, which kind of look strange to me, as they are kind of bubbly looking. I'm about to paint the car because the current paint is in pretty rough shape, and wanted to get a 2nd opinion and possible alternatives that I could look into to replace them. I feel like they would look better without the black plastic trim outlining. Feel free to share pics/thoughts as extremely open minded.

that black rubber weather stripping looks like shit actually. It’s definitely not how ASM fenders are supposed to be installed. Weather stripping can be installed behind where it contacts the body but definitely not like that.
i call the whole install of these fenders suspect and recommend you look at the underside of that overfender. Better yet your painter will have to take it off and inspect for an improper sealing job or places where water can get in. You don’t want it to start rusting there...they will need to potentially address that so expect it. I installed these fenders on my car a couple of years ago and had to cut weld/resell/prep and paint the underside.
My heap for reference. I like these overfenders...they were the quickest way to run a wider tire for me. I also used rivnut/bolt so I can remove them if I wanted more room to service the rear wheel area.

Wow, yeah now that I see how its supposed to look they definitely did an extremely scuffed job. I ended up checking after seeing this and so far so good, but I'm starting to think I might just need to get whole new fenders for the rear and scrap the idea of flares. Looks like a kid went to town with a pair of scissors
New fenders don't exist, the body is all one piece or welded together.
Your flares don't look bad enough to me (especially getting a glimpse of the front fenders (which are bolt-ons) to warrant a rebuild of the body structure and thou$ands in paint. Existing paint looks good in the photos.
You should be able to clean up the installation and with those wheels and tires you need some sort of flares.
Mine were cut and had over-fenders installed before I decided I loathed the bolt-on look. We took them off and used Civic EK front fenders bonded with 3M auto adhesive bond. I've yet to see a cleaner, OEM looking, wide rear quarter solution.
