Hit and Run. Easy fix?
Hey guys, I've had my '05 BB for a few months now and never had any problems with it. Until a week or so ago, some idiot at school was backing out of the spot next to me and scraped my front bumper on the driver side. Tried to get surveillance on what happened but the security cameras didn't catch anything, and I believe insurance will do much about it. My question is, do you think this is going to be an easy/cheap fix? I know this isn't TOO major but just looking bugs the hell out of me!
Could this be buffed out? Should I bring this into a shop or attempt this myself? I don't really have too much prior experience on dealing with and reconditioning the paint so any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

You'll need a body shop to repaint it to make it look like it never happened.
But you can remove all the light (white?) paint and make it look a lot better by going to an auto parts store and picking up a bottle of scratch remover made for clear coat finishes and using it. Then while you're deciding which body shop to do the work, it won't look so bad.

Not much differences between the brands as long as you get one made for clear coat finishes--- they all work pretty much the same. They're the least abrasive and will require a couple of minutes of rubbing but it'll take all that "other color" paint right off and minimize the appearance of the scratches in the paint. You'll only see the scratches where the paint is gone after you do it. Then put a coat of whatever car wax you normally use over it to protect it til you get it fixed permanently.
On the longer (bigger, deeper) scratches, you want to rub them "along the scratch" (in this case front to back of the car) to slightly soften the edges of the scratch and make it less noticeable. This sounds harder than it really is--if you just rub them front to back with the rag with the compound on it, it will automatically happen. The area where it's just paint transfer, you can rub up and down or any way you want to remove the other color paint.
Any auto parts store or Wally World carries the scratch remover ----about $5-7 a bottle.
Post some pix when you're done!!!

As others have stated, 'buff' it out yourself for now. Taking it to a shop will more than likely require the entire front bumper be repainted in which case you might as well hold off until it really needs it (i.e. some more rock chips and road rash occur). It looks as though it won't be too visible with some TLC.
