Rear Bumper Paint Mis-Match
Hello all.
I swapped my AP2 rear bumper w/ an AP1 and I recently had the AP1 repainted Silverstone.
The problem is that the rear bumper does not match the quarter panels. The body shop repainted the rear bumper twice. The second time, the body shop also repainted the quarter panels along w/ the rear bumper. The color still does not match. The rear bumper looks to be a shade darker and looks to have less pearls.
Do you think the bumper mis-match is due to the age of the rear bumper? Could it be that it was repainted too many times (the bumper was probably repainted before I got it)?
What would you do if you were in my situation?
Im trying to determine whether this is a bodyshop issue or a rear bumper issue. Thanks!!
(I'll post photos tomorrow)

I think it's just a Silverstone issue. I'm told that the metallic flake in Silverstone is really difficult to duplicate.
I know that doesn't really help, so I apologize.

It can be a combination of reasons.
They may need to put a lighter sealer coat on the bumper, it could be the "adhesion promoter" under the paint that's changing the color, and it may be they're not appliying enough paint to blend corectly.
Tell them to sand off the existing paint on the bumper and color sand half the quarter panels, apply Bull dog adhesion promoter, a light gray sealer over the adhesion promoter, then basecoat blended from the bumpers to quarters with good coverage of SS basecoat before clear.
