So the other day i went to drive my S2000 and noticed the back window has seperated from the top Brand new Robbins top was installed on the car about two years ago. Looks like the sun heated up the glue around the window and the window is only attached at the bottom portion. Any ideas on how I can fix this??

I'd contact the installer and/or Robbins...

Ill take some later on. But literally from being in the sun the adhesive around the back window separated from the top. Tried to email Robbins and no reply.

I'd find a way to not leave the car in the sun all day. Black canvas roof gets very hot in temperate climates!

What kind of silicone was used? Because it shouldn't just fail. I would use some RED RTV. That stuff stays solid up to like a 1000 degrees. (not a seller of red rtv haha)

 

I'm pretty sure that Robbins and EZ-On tops both carry a 6 year warranty against the window separating. I'm currently waiting for the top that I ordered from topsonline.com to arrive so I can have it installed. I did discuss tops with my installer, and he told me about the warranty against the window separating

 

Thanks for the help. Ill try to contact Robbins again about the issue. Even if they solve my issue, they'll just send me a new top most likely and ill have to go through the entire process again...

 

I did not personally install the window. It came installed from Robbins. Took 30 days to get the top here before I could install it. Oh I miss the mainland haha. I want to buy a hardtop but im procrastinating because spending even $1500 on a Forbidden top is a lot to let float around for 30 days while the top gets freighted here.

 

Is there a way to just strip the old glue off and re-apply some myself? I just had it happen on mine yesterday and my top was replaced about a year ago just before I got the car. Everyone I've called said that I need to have everything replaced...

 

Methyl Ethyl Ketone (MEK) is the gold standard for adhesive removal. However, be cautioned to follow the directions and cautions. You cannot find it anymore in California.

It also is use to prepare surfaces for a great adhesive bond.

If you find it softens the vinyl top more to your liking (after old glue removal and you leave it on for a bit or overdo it) don't panic. Put everything back into the shape and position you want and wait overnight. Everything returns to normal again.
