Default White headlight housing on a GPW?

Hey all,

So I just finished my stereo and think I’m done doing mods > $100 for the season as it’ll be going away for the winter in a couple months. Going to start focusing on the Subaru. That brings me to little odds and ends I can do cheaper to have them all done over the winter in time for spring. My goal was to get rid of all the orange, and a broken side market clip already forced me to get clear sidemarkers last month.

Now I want to clear the headlights. Had me thinking, maybe it’s worth painting the housing while they’re opened up. I did a search, but the only thing I could find was a FS ad from 2003 with no pictures.

Has anyone done, or seen, or have pictures of a GPW with white headlight housings? I have a feeling it would either look amazing and clean, or terrible. Was hoping to see a pic before I decided to do it.\

Thoughts?

I wouldn't paint these if I were you. I tried to paint a couple sets of headlight housings before. The issue is you have to tape off the chrome area that sits near the projector. When you peel the tape off the chrome will come off with the tape. It's very cheaply put on and not durable. Once you ruin that chrome ring, they are useless. Sun reflects through the projector and onto that chrome area. If you try and paint that chrome area black, the sun will destroy it and it will start bubbling up. Chrome tape is almost impossible to use as a replacement in case things go south.

Well damn, that's a bummer. Is it possible to remove the chrome piece and reattach it after paint? I'm guessing not.
