To answer your example:
Neither Gold or Platinum are THE BEST because there may be one application that requires the properties of one or the other.
For example: gold is more conductive than platinum. Why don't they use it in spark plugs? Because platinum melts at a higher temperature and is more resistant to corrosion, and is more dense.
So if you needed a wire conductor that was used in a house...gold would be the best of the two choices. It is a better conductor and its cheaper and more malleable.
If you need a spark plug conductor, platinum would be the best of the two.
For the record, my first post was a follow up question to find out what you meant by best.
There is nothing that's the best for everything. Nobody can answer your question.
For different uses and environments, different brake fluids will be the most advantageous.
Find out what properties you need for YOUR purposes. Then buy the brake fluid that best suits that.
IDK why I'm typing this. Nevermind.

As a noun I like tiger, as a verb I prefer wrench....
To the OP:
The primary considerations for high performance brake fluid are; DOT type, wet and dry boiling point, hydroscpoic properties, viscosity and of course price. There are others depending by application but this should get you started. Also start with what the OEM recommends if DOT 3, then both 3 and 4 are options. Here is a nifty brake fluid comparison chart.

ATE...not the best, but best bang for the buck, which makes it the best.
