Exclamation Broken Control Arm

Hey Guys has anyone ever had this happen to them, my rear upper control arm snapped in half after i hit a bump at low speed, the car is lowered and has camber ball joints. i was thinking that it may have had a stress fracture and over time from being lowered it began to fatigue and break.

I have seen this happen a few times over the last year or so. It is a little unsettling. Your arm looks heavily corroded, which it shouldn't be. Is your's an ap2? So far, I have only seen this occur on ap2s. The ap2 rear upper control arm is different from the ap1.

How long since it broke when photo taken? Basically, did that rust happen after it broke, or before?

I have some familiarity with analyzing fractured metal. You can visually tell if something broke all at once, or fatigued over time. If its over time you can also usually see how much metal was still intact when it finally let go.

Same thing happened to me recently. I was at Sonoma turn 1 going about 100+. Luckily was able to save is somehow.
I think its the SPC ball joints that somehow weaken the arm.

My bet is the aftermarket BJ is a little wider causing the metal fatigue

gregasorous--I didn't have time to wait for the Ikeya arms so I just got OEM's for now. I do plan on getting both the front and rear upper arms from Ikeya in the future.

fuuuukkk...gonna check mine for cracks in the summer off season. Ikeya is good, but these have spherical bushings and an interesting adjustment design: http://www.evasivemotorsports.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=EM&Product_Cod e=XNG0701&Category_Code=S2000-SUSPENSION
