So the Centrics arrived. Rears are exactly what I was expecting but the fronts were all black, rotor surface and all. Emailed Centric to find out why and they said its to prevent corrosion and to extend shelf life. I have to take a scotchbrite pad and scuff it off. Odd.
Why would you need to scuff it off? Just braking should get it off.

Dunno, that's what the Centric guy told me.

From Pat McCleish

"The friction surface may be coated with a dull charcoal colored coating...if this is the case, it is a phosphate anti-corrosive coating used to preserve the rotor during it's shelf life. It is recommended that the phosphate coating be scuffed up with some emery cloth, sandpaper, or scotchbrite pad prior to installation to remove any excess. "

^ Agreed. He said recommended, and not required. I'm sure people have installed them without doing that but since I have scotchbrite pads anyway, might as well.

Dude just use the brake pads to clean the surface. The way only the brake surface will rust.

Coating is pretty standard now on rotors. Better than oiled.

get the cheapest rotors you can find, you won't be able to feel any quality difference.

for pads, if it's just normal driving, then anything is really fine. i personally use slightly more aggressive pads, such as axxis, stoptech, or ebc, but i don't think you'll benefit from them.....

ebay ftw

Just saw this thread on another website. Apparently, the rotors used by R1 Concepts are Centrics.

And apparently, the R1 concepts cost 120% of what the centric premiums do from tire rack!

I just ordered a set of Centric Premium rotors for the front off Amazon. $100.14 shipped with free two day shipping (prime trial membership), but they qualify for free super-saver also.

People are really recommending Axxis pads? The factory pads are much, much better and ask around here and folks have tons of factory takeoff pads. The rotors are all pretty similar. Honda is excellent quality as are centrix and napa premium. I have had great luck previously with Brembo form tirerack for other vehicles.
