Default Honest opinion about BC Racing Coilovers on the Track

Supp S2ki'ers!!! I tried looking up review of the BC Racing coilovers, I did try the search and I did try google too. I see the one very good review that was done a while back where the car has been to the track, the dragon and everything. That was an old post, and I respect the guy for work and effort he put into the review but I feel like that was more of a sponsorship review since I got offered a similar deal by a retailer of BC for my M3 a while back. I got busy and never got to do it.

Anyways, I wanted to see if anyone here has a set of them and has track them. What have you had before this setup and how do you compare them? I have seen KWs on almost every S2000 that performs good at the track and I won't mind a set. BC Racing claims their product to be as good at the track but so far everyone I know has just either been doing street driving or stancing them.

I have driven cars with Buddy Club N+, Tein Flex, and all those other coilovers and I feel like they are a complete downgrade over stock when it comes to performance. I just don't want the BC's to be the same and only give me the option of height adjustment over stock. Thank you all

I would go with another coilover for the track. I have driven my friends car and while it feels great on the street it wont offer you the performance you are looking for. I would go with kwV3 or better for the track. To be honest the V3 is more than most people will ever need.

There is a reason you don't hear of top tier S2000 running BC coilovers. And it's not because people can't afford them

Would that be the same reason you don't hear of top tier s2000's running oem too? Or being CRs? Yeah. Lets look at the ASM tsukuba special. That's a top tier s2000. That's a realistic goal.

The idea that if you're going to mod you should spend money or not bother is stupid. I like to tinker, and there is better than OEM to be had for money that doesn't break the bank. Obviously there are 100 different levels of modified, and if I had space bucks I'd come in swinging my dick with ohlins and 20k recaros, claiming everyone with lesser parts is doing it wrong too and all you poor souls with kwv3's shouldn't bother since you're not doing it to my level of right and your car will never be on my car's "tier".

Just because the standard in a community is something doesn't make it truly top tier. It just makes it what the average budget is, which is usually proportional to the car's MSRP unfortunately... hence 20k turbo kits for gtr's (which have turbos stock so design is easier) versus 6k kits for our non-turbo cars.

In regards to the OP, plenty of suspension sets in the 1000-1500 range will get you better characteristics and performance than OEM on a track, you just have to put up with a shitty daily ride. Stiffer and lower than stock is going to be faster to a point. If you're not looking to sacrifice the DD feel/ride height, you'll have to buy something like kwv3 and still be prepared to at least adjust the damping knobs between activities (which is easy) but ideally you'd want to adjust height and spring rate too.

What's good at track is normally not good for DD. There are simply parts that do decently at both without adjustments, but those will never be as good as even the same part adjusted for one set of duties.

I wasn't referring to high dollar unlimited budget teams. But your local track superstars who hold records for your chassis are a good starting point to see whats working.

And just in case I wasn't completely clear the BC shocks (for motorsport use) are pretty terrible. If you just want a shock that can adjust your height and your car can still drive on them then sure they're great. I'd rather have bilstein for similar price though.

I had them on my car, I tracked them for a bit and recently changed to hks hipermax. I must say for track use the bc's are junk unless you track 1 to 2 times a year

I too have the HKS Hipermax III's and think they are a great single-adjustable mono-tube coilover. If you can find a used set for cheap and don't mind the stiffer setup for the street, they'd be a good choice. I felt like the KW's were too advanced for my simple brain to handle, lol. I've had Buddy Club N+'s in the past, and the HKS's are far superior on course (I mainly autox).

+ another vote for the Hipermax III's. I used to run these before I went with a set of AST's, and they're great coilovers for the price. One con though is that HKS USA closed its doors, so getting them rebuilt may be a PITA.

Don't waste your time with the BC's (or Megans, or Tein Flex, etc.). Most of the budget coilovers I've driven on (I started with Tein Flex and have driven one with Megans) felt underdamped and were crap on the track. I hear the Tein Monoflex is supposedly better, but I skipped it and went to the Hipermax since Maxrev recommended them to me.
