Default Preloading suspension question

Hey just a quick question. When you preload a suspension part, lets say a lower control arm. So if you replace the lower control arm when you go to tighten it do you only have to preload and re-tighten that lower control arm or do you have to do the tie rod and upper control arm to? So pretty much when I go to preload it do I only have to do it to the bolts I untighten or the whole suspension again?

You must reclock anything mounted with rubber bushings that moves with suspension if you either loosen its mounting bolt or change ride height.

So that would include:

Upper CA
Lower CA
Lower shock mount

You would make sure that corner of the cars weight is suspended by tire or by lower suspension, then loosen and retighten mounting bolt.

If you change ride height you must reclock everything above at all 4 corners.

If you just did maintenance and loosened something, you just need to clock and tighten that (those) part(s).

Note this is NOT preloading. Its reclocking. Preloading is something entirely different.

Thanks thats what I meant reclocking. So if I am just changing the lower control arm I just have to retighten the bolts I took off correct? So that would mean the Upper CA I would leave alone?

Yes, just reclock the lower arm. I always like to load the car level. A drive on lift is grest. That way you can get undernesth. If you do t have a lift cut up 2x12" pieces of wood to 24" lengths and cut 24-28 pieces. Stack 6-7 under each wheel. Then you can crawl under and torque everything to spec while loaded
