Default Weight of Stock suspension vs coilovers?

Does anyone have info on how much the stock suspension weigh vs coilovers?

I would imagine coilovers weigh less??

Stock suspension is about 50 lbs. Aftermarket options range, but are usually nominally lighter at the least. Fortune Auto's 500 and 510 series are something like 40 lbs overall. If you want to spend big money, the Ohlins TTX are around 30 lbs total.

If you can find that old sport compact car article, they weighed the stock and many aftermarket coilover options for our cars specifically.

If memory serves, the stainless bodied coilovers with remote reservoirs like the KW were something 2.5lbs lighter per corner than stock and the aluminum bodied were even lighter, but I can't remember by how much.

The Ohlins DFVs are designed in Sweden and Machined in Japan out of Aluminum. Aluminum allows the shock to dissipate heat better throughout and shed about 16lbs over the OEM dampers. The OEM S2000 dampers weigh in at about 51lbs across all four corners while the DFVs come in at about 35lbs. 16lbs is a significant weight savings for a part upgrade on a car that weighs as little as the S2000. More importantly it is 16lbs of unspring weight, further improving handling by improving wheel/tire dynamics.

Around 4 pounds lighter a corner for DFV. I'd assume most higher end coilovers have similar weights.

amazing info guys!

"More importantly it is 16lbs of unspring weight, further improving handling by improving wheel/tire dynamics" I never thought of it as unspring weight. But when I think about it, it makes sense!

Key in mind only about half the weight of the coilover itself is unsprung (What Billy Johnson told me anyway). The KW clubsports are 2.5lbs lighter per corner because they are stainless steel bodies instead of aluminum like the DFV.
