Rear Axle Nut tightening on your CR

Rear Axle Nut tightening on your CR
I tightened my rear axle nuts on my CR to 230 ft/lbs today
apparently ALL S2K's even CR's come from the factory with 180 ft/lbs which loosens and causes a clicking sound/bearing to go bad
pretty easy procedure https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/880...moving-slowly/
you need a 36mm socket and a torque wrench
it is done right if the stake mark moves from 12 to 2 o' clock
Just wondering if others have done it yet
@ psychoazn:
was wondering if you have done this to your car
as it just hit me that it might be what is causing your rear bearings to go bad

Where can you get the torque wrench that can go up to 230 ft/lbs? thanks

I thought this was an issue that was covered by a Technical Service Bulletin in 2004 or so? This was definately taken care of at the factory long before the CRs were built... I would hope...

I went to my Honda dealership about this many times and even called American Honda about it
They all said that there is no TSB about the rear axle nut.
There is a Technical Service Note #011201 but that was not in their systems apparently.
They told me that as long as there isn't anythong wrong with the car there is nothing they could do for the warranty to cover it,
so I just torqued my axle nuts on my own
I could tell the axle nut was not torqued to 230 ft/lbs because the original stake mark easily went past the 12 o'clock mark when torqued to that amount

Keep in mind, if you torque almost any fastener to a high spec, then loosen it, and re-torque, it will not torque to the same rotational position due to threads and other surfaces stretching, deforming, and compressing slightly each time it is torqued. You won't likely get any previous stake mark to line up after torquing a 2nd or even 3rd time.
Eventually, after everything has stretched, deformed, and crushed all they can without breaking, only THEN you might get a reproducable mark. Of course you should never reach this point because you should be replacing the fastener long before it reaches this point.
