There's not a hardtop on the market that beats the fit and finish of the OEM hardtop.

This.

OP - I completely understand where you're coming from as far as your situation and reasoning for looking into this but I would vote to keep the OEM top if at all possible.

Exactly this! Even authentic Mugen tops fit like crap. IMO

I knew you guys would talk me out of it, but it does make the most sense. It wasn't till I saw what factory hardtops were selling for vs. what the replicas cost that I seriously started considering.

I need to try Mike's roll off method for the hardtop. I wonder if he rolls the top back on?

That's not something I want to roll the dice with. I would be so pissed if someone's shitty window flew off in front of me on track.

No rolling involved... just a few pivots. I'm not in the best of shape, but I wouldn't recommend my current technique to weaklings

Also, helps if you have a lot of room around. Takes me about a minute to get the top off alone, and about 30 seconds to get it on. The orientation of my hardtop stand helps with getting it back on too.

Thought I would throw in my 2 cents.

I've had 3 S2000's, all with OEM hardtops at one time or another. Right now I have the GT motoring CF hardtop with lexan rear window. It is incredibly light and well built. The seals aren't great but the GT Motoring top (unlike the Forbidden) accepts all the OEM interior panels. It's literaly an unchanged replica. I think with all the interior panels, it would fit like OEM. It really is a great top.

That being said, it's probably more than what I need right now. I track a lot, sold my CR so I could buy a salvage title S2000 to track, and now the top is the nicest part of my car (except for my shocks). So I'm seeing if I can sell/trade my top for an OEM top. I figure if I can sell/trade with a $1000 profit, I can race more and not worry about the top in case of a track incident. I would even include the interior pieces if I trade. But with OEM top prices going up, I don't know i I can find the $1k profit unless I find something beat up (which is fine).
