S2000 CR Club Racer Edition CR stands for "club racer," conjuring up the good old days when guys drove their sports cars to the track, raced them, and then, if the racing gods were smiling, drove them home again

Default Why Potenza RE070 on CR?

First I love the Potenzas REO70. Bu at the time that the S2k CR came out they were better tires in the market than the RE070. Why honda use the RE070 on the CR? One thing about them is that they have a strong sidewall but other than that what more benefits from that tire?

I'm guessing at the time it was the "superior" branded tire of it's day. The fact that Honda specified that tire for the CR indicates to me they felt it offered the best overall performance.

From TireRack's site regarding the RE070.

"The Potenza RE070 features a high-grip tread compound molded into an asymmetric tread design to combine handling with traction. Semi-Slick outboard shoulder blocks and several continuous inboard ribs enhance initial responsiveness and increase lateral stiffness to reduce the irregular wear that can occur during hard cornering. The tire's internal structure includes twin steel belts reinforced by spirally wrapped nylon to blend high-speed durability with uniform ride quality".

Bridgestone probably gave Honda a good deal on approx. 700 sets of RE070's as they were developing the CR back in late 2007
the RE-11 first sold March 1st 2008

RE070's were used on NSX-R, Subaru STi's from 04-07, and the first generation GTR.

I think more than anything, Uehara worked with designing that tire for the NSX-R and as the CR was his "baby" he wanted them on there. Honda already had a contract with Bridgestone, so I would assume it wasn't anymore complicated than that.

They used a pre-existing tire from the NSX. The RE01-R is already superior to the RE-070, and that's a generation old....

On the "cheaper" end, Z1SS are easy to pick up and RS3s for the ultimate grip.
