06 XM users?
as posted earlier, i purchased an 06 yesterday. now i'm very very confused. the head unit is the XM ready unit, so, i guess all i have to get is the reciever, crap like that i guess. not sure exactly what has to be installed. now, someone please correct me if i'm wrong.....just got off the phone with the dealer, and they told me that it will cost 509 bucks to get it completed, i told him that was a joke, and i'm guessing the guy thought i was buying the whole head unit, even when i stressed to him its 'xm ready'.....someone please help me, i'm very lost...thanks in advance anyone!!!

The head unit is simply capable of recognizing the addition of an XM receiver and acting as the display. The extra money buys you not only the visible antenna they mount on your trunk, but a receiver unit that gets mounted behind the panel next to the spare tire panel in the trunk. And, of course, the additional harness wiring involved.
XM receiver mounting location:

I asked my dealer about other options besides drilling a hole in the trunk for mounting the antenna, since some Honda SUVs have windshield-mounted stick-ons that are rather unintrusive. They assured me that this wouldn't work for the S2000. Personally, I think it's just because they don't have nice, convenient harness wiring for it and would have to run a wire from the front of the dash back to the trunk.
My dealer did, however, agree to painting the antenna to match my car for $50. If you get them to do this for you, make sure you ask them to use gray primer first so it matches the car better. My antenna looks just a half-shade darker than the car in good lighting. It's fine but could be better.

I have the antenna installed in the upper shelf of the secret compartment. I love it. You can't tell that I have XM, no drilling in the trunk, and the reception is fine unless I am in a tunnel or underground parking garage. The shop that installed it for me had worked on a fair number of S2000s before but never installed in that location before. Apparently it involves a lot of labor, they charged me the original (low) quote but said in the future they would either never do that again, or charge quite a bit more. Just letting you know that there are options on where you mount that antenna. I bought my XM receiver from either hardtopguy or handa accessories for somewhere in the low 400s.

I bought my XM unit from Majestic Honda ( www.hondaautomotiveparts.com). You have the buy the satellite radio unit(224.25), which is the "brain", the antenna (74.25) and the attachment (34.50), which is the bracket that bolts the unit down, totalling $352 plus shipping. Installed it myself. It took me about an hour and a half, taking my time to make sure it's done right. I didn't paint the antenna though, and I don't mind the color, as it looks ok against my LBP color. The reception is not bad, although the tiny antenna that came with the MyFi in my other car seems to get a stronger signal than the big ass one on my S2k, with much less signal loss than the S2k.
