10w3 vs. 10w6
What's the difference between the JL Audio 10w3 and the 10w6? I see that the w6 is rated for 100W more power, yet needs slight less cu ft of air space. It also has a slightly larger mounting depth, and a little more weight. But sonically what's the difference between them? Does one sound better than the other, or is better for a certain type of music than the other or ???

From my personal experience with the setups I've seen, 10W6v2s have tighter, punchier bass.
I'm actually disappointed that all JL Stealboxes have W3s, when W6s would fit in most of the boxes just fine.

The 10w6 has larger magnets, and a different shaped cone (i think). It hits harder, but some say it sounds "boomy". The excursions should also be difference, with the W6 xmax being greater than the w3.
As far as volume is concerned, if you are using a tool-well enclosure, it will not be a problem for either. You can get up to 1.25-1.5CF (depending on materials used). It you want a WLAURENT style enclosure, you will need a sub with ~.50 CF requirement, and a rather shallow mounting depth.
For that money, get a Boston Accoustic G510. Requires ~.50 CF, excursion is greater, bass is tighter, sub is more musical sounding (less "boomy"), the parts are interchangeable (incase you fry a Voice Coil), and the power handling is 450wrms.
Just my $.02 (I am biased, though, as I own a G5
)

I personally have the 10w2 and think it sounds good in my custom tool well enclosure, but i think JL subs are a tad overrated. My next sub will definitely be a boston Acc or an Infinity as i think they have a purer sound.
