Default 12" sub box

Where has everyone got their sub boxes that fit in the spare tire tool area in the trunk? i have found lots of people that make 10" ones, but i need one for a 12. i have also found lots of plywood ones being made, and not so many mdf or fiberglass ones. anyone know where to get one that isnt custom made at a shop for way too much $$$? thanks

I made one out of fibreglass w/ an MDF top. With the foam tool holder removed, there's actually quite a bit of space in there. Pure MDF boxes lose tons of volume due to the curved edges. Also, a custom fit fibreglass box doesn't move around much at all due to the tighter fit.

It wasn't terribly hard to make (this was my first attempt) but it was very messy and tedious. A couple of tips:

1) Do buy a bunch of cheap, throw-away brushes (the $0.50 kind).

2) Don't try to cover the entire area w/ large sheets of cloth. Too many bubbles that way.

3) I used duct tape as my release agent. It was too hard to get plastic sheeting to lie flat. Duct tape fit the area perfectly w/o any folds/bubbles.

4) A dremel tool is very helpful for tidying up the rough edges.

I MAY sell some 12" during the summer ONLY with subwoofers. But these have been set aside for installations. At the current time we have NO time for even a basic speaker swap until June.

Visit your local car stereo shops, you should be able to find one for around $60-$80. I got mine for around $60. I'm using it for a 12" JL sub, the box has enough volume for my sub (over 1.2) and matches the trunk carpet pretty good. I couldn't be happier for the $$

If you want something like what Hickey322 has done, check out lucid's product or make one yourself.
