Default 12 volt power turn on lead

Where are most people picking up 12 volt power for an amp turn on. I realize the Ant. is powered. Are most tapping off that or is there an unused lead on the stock 2002 radio? Thanks George

To prevent damage to components, the 12 volt lead should be run DIRECTLY from the battery! This should be state right in the installation instructions.

That is a good question. The stock head unit has nothing to connect for this. Also the antenna is not powered. (anyone correct me if I am wrong). Since you will have to install a line level converter or an amp that take line level inputs. The converter has an amp turn on lead for just this. As for the other, I have never installed one.

The S2000 has an amplified antenna so it is powered but I'm not sure if this power should be used for other purposes. It may cause electrical interference.

Check out this thread,
here.

I did end up tapping the power antenna wire, and it works perfectly as an amp turn-on, i.e., on and off w/ the head unit (even in CD mode). Although, I did it off of the correlating wire on Lucid's rear speaker harness, instead of the factory wire. It's really the same thing, but it allowed me to leave the factory wires untouched.

Jshahan, the antenna isn't powered, as in telescoping up and down, but the antenna amplifier is powered. (xviper just said the same thing while I was previewing my reply )

Thanks for the help. I will use that lead when I install my amp.
S2Krazy, the main power lead will be run directly to the battery, I was looking for a head unit switched source of 12 volt for the on off feature most amps have. George

If you're just trying to turn your amp on, and the radio is always on when you're in the car, you can use the switched power from the ignition as well.

This might be the better idea of all. It's one of the 3 empty slots in the under dash fuse panel. Can't remember which one is the "switched" one though. A voltmeter will tell.

I used that while I was waiting for my Lucid harness. It worked well, too. Of the three outlets, it's one of the ones on the end. The one on the other end comes on w/ the lights. Here's a pic from the "Hard wiring a radar detector" instructions on this site (from s2000.org). That's exactly what I use this slot for. I moved my radar detector to the constant power tap(middle slot) in the mean time. I hated having to remember to turn it on/off.
