Well, aren't 2 12's larger than one 15?

More total cone area for sure. Whether 2 12s could displace more air than a single 15 would depend on excursion (xmax).

OK time for some sort of serious answer.

The problem you will have is getting the right airspace for that much sub. You will need to ask yourself the following:
  • Do I want to carry ANYTHING in the trunk?
  • Do I have the skills or $$$ to have a fiberglass enclosure built?

The only way to get that much volume would be to glass the tool well and then build a top to give the extra air needed for 2 12's.

What brand/model subs do you have? This will help determine how much airspace you need for the enclosure.

For 2 12's fiberglass is pretty much a requiment. Just for reference the box below is approx. 1.4 ft3. Those are two 10's.

Ok great,

Minimum 1.3 cuft per sub, and a port of 3" x7.75" per sub. The issue is getting the right amount of space and that sub doesnt make it easy. Glassing the tool well and making it flush will get you about 1.25 cuft ( I think), so you will need to then double that volume by creating another space above the well, with the spare tire removed you would have approx 24" wide x 17" deep and 6" tall.... that is another 1.4 cuft for a total of 2.65cuft.

It will be close but you may be able to pull it off, the next issue is getting the amps etc in the trunk, not to mention the vibration from 2- 12's, maybe only use 1??? up to you bro.

Maybe DarkKnight or one of the others may have a suggestion...

cool, thanks for the info, i was thinking about something like the pic in J_C_A's post, except built up higher and wider, have the subs at an angle facing backwards, and was going to try to use pas2k's flat amp rack

Minimum 1.3 cuft per sub, and a port of 3" x7.75" per sub.
This is assuming he wants a ported enclosure, isnt it? A sealed enclosure he can get away with as little as .75CF / sub (according to www.sounddomain.com). That would mean he could make something similar to j_c_a's enclosure, and not have it stick up / out a lot more.

If he is going to need a true 2.65 ft^3 (for a ported enclosure), that is a little over DOUBLE the tool well size. Unless he wants to glass his entire trunk, that box, if made like j_c_a's would almost stick up to the trunk line (or at least most of the way).

If I were in this situation, personally, I would use 1 of the 12" subs in a sealed tool well enclosure (you can mount it flush this way). Then, if the bass is still not enough, I would port the rear decklid into the cabin.

just my $.02.
