2004 XM + CD Changer
Howdy folks...
I've ordered a 2004 S2000 (after *drooling* for oh so many years--about the car, that is)...
I asked for price quotes for the XM radio and headrest speaker options during the multi-dealer negotiation process, and was pretty taken aback by the results: $787 for the XM, $750 for the headrest speakers.
Needless to say, I'm going to go the aftermarket route.
Lots of expertise evident here...can anyone help me out with some recommendations? I'll be looking to do the following:
1. XM receiver (unsure if I'll just stay with the factory head unit, or go with a Roady or other "tuner/receiver");
2. CD changer;
3. Mark's S Pod headrest speakers.
It appears that Logjam Electronics has the harnesses (Blitzsafe) I need to connect both the XM receiver and CD changer into the CD port on the back of the head unit. I don't know the implications that would have to #1 above.
Mark's been very forthcoming with information about the headrest S Pod speakers--they "sound" like a good idea (excuse the pun).
I know the 2004 (and its inherent XM capability) is a new thing, and folks may not have hands-on experience just yet. Let's just say I'm getting an early start...
Oh yeah, and by the way--recommendations for competent installers in the San Antonio/Austin area?
Thanks in advance,
Rhino Driver

its a bit early to tell with the 2004, but historically most factory ready satellite systems will notaccept an aftermarket XM tuner. so you're only option would be a "roady" style XM receiver with the Aux in adaptor.
jsut FYI not sure if this is true in 2004 (still too early to know) but on the 2000-2003 S2000 you can use Alpine cd changers with blitzsafe adaptors, might save you on total cost.

right now, w/o anyone having seen a 2004 HU (head unit), it's going to be impossible to tell you anything at all of worth. Lucid's harness may or may not work, modifry's DCI may or may not work,... the list goes on.
regardless, if i were in your boat, i wouldn't try to salvage the OEM HU, as historically they have been pretty much rubish. if you're going to pop for the changer and XM, and you're going to buy the potentially buggy and expensive adapters -- spend the tiny bit more and just get a decent aftermarket head unit. you'll generally get more features, MP3 capability (not sure if the 04 will have that), cheaper addons, and better integration. you might initially lose dash controls, but i'm betting that they won't be changed... the DCI should still work, and if not - you can always go with DJ Qube's solution or the PAC XI (or whatever it is...

$787 for an XM tuner????? Yipes. I paid $150 for my Alpine XM box. Kenwood had a deal for a while where they would give you the Sirius tuner box for FREE if you bought one if their Sirius compatible decks.
dealerships always try to screw you deep on the accessories...
i once had a dealer/salesman agressively try to convince me a CD changer was worth $700, and that once installed with the $500 premium sound package, it would better than any stereo i could ever put in the car.... (it's got a 5 band EQ! what could be better?! you're not going to do better!) he was so pushy and arrogant about the whole thing, i started to walk on the deal. by the end of it, i actually demanded they pull the entire base stereo out and leave me w/ a hole in the dash and give me the money they claim as the value back for it...
needless to say, when i returned $1,100 later, i just about shoved that statement down his throat, right after i blew his mind...
i still get pissed thinking about that dude....

yeah that 500-600 for an XM tuner is pretty standard for a dealer ship. the Sirius one for my MINI is $500. they know they can screw you because that's the only way you can get integrated satellite with the stock head unit.
