Default 2006 S2K Honda Music Link?

has anyone installed this on their S2K? one of the things i was hoping for in the 06 S2K was standard auxilary input. i think the honda music link is great the fact it charges the ipod and you don't have to use ipod to select the music but auxilary input would have been a nice standard feature on a $30k car. heck scions and most toyotas have them standard.

and for those who do have the link how much did it cost to install at the dealer and how long did it take?

Most here agree the stock HU isn't the best. Swapping out the HU was my first mod (the HU from my older car fit perfectly), and it gave me all kinds of options for hooking up iPods and other goodies.

With that being said, your question revolved around the Music Link with a stock HU. I personally have not installed a Music Link onto a stock HU, so take everything here with a grain of salt.

I have to say something to this. Most Scions and Toyotas don't turn heads the way our car does. Nor are their handling characteristics in the same ballpark. That being said, I'm the first to agree the sound system is Yugo quality, not Honda $30k quality.

I'm gonna guess the install isn't much different from installing an iPod controller into an S2k with an aftermarket HU. I'd say it takes me 2 hours to get one in and tested. That's taking my time. In a pinch I might be able to do it in an hour (that and if I did it everyday). A dealer would probably quote you 4 hours to get it done, just to slot time for small problems that might arise. I have no clue about the cost though, sorry.

Also, don't shy away from an aftermarket HU becuase you fear losing your dashboard controls. There are products made by people here that restore your dashboard controls, Modifry's DCI (Dash Control Interface) as an example.

thanks for the input!

i don't mind the stock head unit cause i'm not much of car audiophile like some people. i don't need a lot of features such as sound levelizers and dsp modes, i just want to be able to use the ipod. so i'm not constantly changing cd's.

i called a dealer and they said it takes 6 hours to install and 189.00 for the ipod link. total is $489 installed plus tax.

I put in a USA Spec Ipod input. It was about $100 from crutchfield.com It worked great for about 2 months and then it stopped working about a month ago. I still need to send it back for an in-warranty (i hope) fix. I did like it since it has a switch on the device that you can flip to either ipod control or only playlist control. I think you name them all HONDA1, HONDA2, etc but I use the ipod control anyway. It does charge ipod and also has aux input if you wanted to use that.
