more than likely the light assembly needs removed and cleaned up. Mine had issues for awhile and when I took it out and took it apart & cleaned it I have not had any more problems.

Good idea. I'll try the multimeter while also making sure the light switch is in the OFF position.

A couple things:
1) your ground(s) should be way less than 1 ohm.
2) your battery drain could happen if the amp(s) are not shutting off when
the remote wire from the headunit turns off. You could check this by removing the
fuse to the amps when all is off, and then putting your multimeter on them set to
"DC amps" and seeing if there is current flowing.
