Default 3-way components?

anyone running any 3-way component systems in their s2k? i was thinking about maybe going a dynaudio route with the 7" in the doors and the mid/tweet in the kick panels. i had basically the same setup in my last car but via boston acoustic pro 6.3 system and i don't believe boston is making them anymore, least they arent listed on their webpage. i just can't stand the stock door location for the mids/highs and the masking that my leg causes every time!

opinions? photos? heck how about some photos of just some different component installs out there, doesnt even have to be three ways. i checked the install page but all you people ever show are your head units, amps and sub enclosures!

Check out the sticky "Stereo Install Pictures..." at the top of the Electronics forum.

On the first page you can see b0mbrman's install with mids/tweets in kicks.

It's the only one I remember seeing here and it's one of my favorite installs. I'm not sure what you don't like about those kicks, is it how they look? Maybe you can cover them up with something else that you like. As long as they blend in with the rest of the interior it's all good.

It would be very easy to make a kick panel for the passenger side but the drivers side on the other hand is a little more tricky. You have to worry about thespace that it will require to make them fit right. You'll need to use a lower profile speaker, that or plan on relocating your ECU and moveing the wiring harness up and out of the way.

yes it was the "style" of the kicks i didn't like.

thanks darknight, that's some valuable information i was looking for. i had no idea the ecu was behind the driver's side kick. i was contemplating just laying up a new fiberglass kick for both sides to house the mid and tweet.

If I was you I would take some time and take those stock kick panels off and have a look for yourself. Your going to have to cut the stock panel up and use part of it to mold onto to get the right setup. You need to bury those speakers back pretty far so they don't get in the way of you driving the car.

Hi guys

The looks are subjective so I won't go into that. I will say that I'm into the look only in a utilitarian sense and wouldn't do it if it didn't help out with the sound. Although, with the grills removed, the alien eyeball look of the Morel mid next to the titanium cone look of the Focal tweeter looks pretty neat.

As for how it sounds, I think it sounds pretty good--great even...while I'm either stopped or cruising in a single gear. The sound changes a lot when my left leg is cocked, shifting gears, or otherwise not resting on the dead pedal. If your leg is masking the stock locations, they will probably

Yes. I'll start by saying that I had my kick panels custom made because I'm no good at wood-working. Oh yeah, they're made of MDF covered in carpet.

As for space, I get away with a pretty small enclosure because the Morel is a closed-back mid.

I have seen an S2000, 3-way install with the mid driver in the dash and partially covering the passenger airbag. I wouldn't recommend this setup for obvious reasons. ..

Bombrman- Is there a reason why they didn't use fiberglass to keep them smaller? Do you have any more pictures of the drivers side?

And if I could ask, how much did you pay for them? You can answer this via PM if you would like to that part private.

Thanks!

thanks bombrman and darknight, once again really useful information. aesthetically i'd rather go a fiberglass route and am actually quite experienced laying it up, no problems there. i've done more than enough corvette build ups to be familiar with glass handling and construction not to mention a good number of sub enclosure and kicks for a previous vehicle of mine. i guess i'm just trying to figure out if its going to be worth all the trouble, i hate the staging in this vehicle and its lack of options (albeit there's good reason why and i love the car!!). if only there wasnt a little more room in the dash to bury the mids up by the windshield. hmmm, 5 channel system to smooth everything out but i dont want to get into that much cost! maybe i should just supercharge it and listen to a blower all day long instead, probably easier in the grander scheme of things haha
