Default 4 channel amp okay to use?

I have an old 4 channel pioneer amp given to me with has these specs

* Continuous Power (20Hz-20kHz, 0.08% THD)
o 4 ch: (4 Ohm) 50Wx4
o 4 ch: (2 Ohm) 60Wx4
o 2 ch: (4 Ohm) 120Wx2
* Maximum Power (EIAJ)
o 4 ch: (4 Ohm) 100Wx4
o 2 ch: (4 Ohm) 240Wx2
* Frequency Response: 10Hz - 50kHz (0,-1dB)
* Total Harmonic Distortion: 0.004% (1kHz, 4 Ohm)
* Signal-to-Noise Ratio: 105dB (IHF-A Weighted, at 1kHz)
* Dimensions: 10" x 2-3/8" x 12-3/8"

Im a electronics noob so.....could i use this for my S?
If so, what type of door speakers (coaxial) would you recommend wattage-wise.
Im confused on the difference in 'continuos' vs 'maximum' power. should i be looking to buy speakers that match the "continuous/max" watt to the speakers' rated "peak" or "rms" wattage????

I'm not an expert in any of this, but I don't see why you wouldn't be able to use that amp. As for the continuous vs. maximum power, I'll tell you what I know. The amp has a rate of power that it runs consistently at, give or take a couple of watts, this is the maximum continous power outage of the amp. The peak is how high the wattage can go up, some people think the higher the better...but it really depends on what you want. But you DO have to get speakers to match, or modify the amount of power that comes out of the amp, otherwise the speakers can be worn out quickly or blow.

Even though your specs may say a certain wattage it also depends on the volume you have the radio at, the louder obviously the more power and vise versa. The ratings are the maximum it can do. As for which speakers to get, I think you should get components rather than coaxials if you are going to connect an amp to the speakers. But thats me, everyone has their own preferences and you should do whats good for you.

so it sounds like...if i were to buy speakers....i would want to get a pair of speakers with an RMS wattage similar to that of the 'continuous' wattage of the amp?

Yes, that would be ideal. Or you can get something with a lower RMS and lower the gain on the amp (in turn lowering the rms and power).
