Default 6.5" Components with "Good Bass"

Stock HU and will be adding a 2-channel amp (maybe the JL Audio 300/2) if I do decide to upgrade the front speakers for my AP2.

I'm looking for more volume and clarity, which I assume having an amp will achieve, but I'd like to get some more "bass" if possible without a dedicated subwoofer. I don't plan on adding a subwoofer or an aftermarket HU.

I was originally looking at the Infinity Kappa 60.7cs (Sensitivity: 95 dB, Frequency: 45-25,000 Hz), but am now rather intrigued about the Polk Audio MOMO Carbon MMC6500 (Sensitivity: 90 dB, Frequency: 43-25,000 Hz).

I guess I was thinking of running whatever speakers I do go with at full range (bypassing the crossovers) or setting the crossover lower than 70-80 Hz if possible to help me achieve more "bass". That foolish?

For what it's worth, both sets seem to MSRP at $299, but I can get them new for $160 OTD -- eBay is probably $200-$250.

If neither of these are good options, perhaps you could check out http://www.cardomain.com to come up with a better alternative for components and amplifier (leaning toward JL Audio 300/2 through eBay). I have a major hookup with cardomain

I had a set of Planet Audio Neo speakers that put out great bass, but the midrange was lacking and they couldn't hit enough volume in the S2000 without distorting to overcome other noises. They would rattle the car and the previous car they were in by themselves. Something you could look into.

Not sure if your paying shipping or not if you buy them from cardomain, but if you are, you can actually get them cheaper on Ebay. For $145 + shipping for the Infinity's and $157+shipping for the Polk's. If your not paying shipping its about the same.

Oh and if you want clarity... ditch that stock HU...

Phil,
Specs of Focal 165K2P is 70Hz-22kHz and 70Hz is not a lot of "bass" that JawKnee is looking for. I don't know if there is a 6 1/2" component that can produce frequency down to 40Hz or below.

Also, he is looking for a pair of component priced at around $300 or less. Focal 165K2P is way above his price target.

I changed from the Planet Audio's to Focal K2's and they are nowhere near on the bass output, but they make up for it in every other way.

I was in the same boat as you. I want good bass w/o a sub in case I have to take my sub out. My answer is Polk Momo 6500's - excellent highs and mid-bass. Price is right too.

specs or no specs on the 165 K2P's... they do produce very substantial bass for an in door 6.5" speaker.

most of us realize that bass out of a 6.5" mid/bass driver is impossible. i suggested the best option i know for output, and he gave no budget... so...
