602a worse than stock
Help, I just put in one new polk 602a and it is not nearly as clear or crisp as the stock. It sounds sorta dull?? Feel like putting the stock speaker back. Any suggestions.

They should sound fine. I picked them because the weak stock headunit could power them. You will not be able to turn them up as loud without the speaker 'farting' and you won't be able to hear them at top speed without a more powerful headunit. You should hear a fuller range of sound. Much deeper bass as well.
Did you cut the back of the basket off? The speaker lip must be flush and tight against the basket lip.
Do you have the right polarity? Get a cleaner/diagnostics cd (~$15) and do the polarity test. Inverted polarity will make the mids cancel, giving a dull sound. Happened to me.

I put in the same speaks, polarity fine, sound sucks. They do sound better with the windows down.
This is with a sony head unit, no outboard amp... sounded better with the lame ass stock speaks.

I have run the following combinations (in order of best sound).
Did you check the items from my previous post. Where do you live? I'm sure someone could stop by and check it out for a couple of beer.
Bottom line, those speakers should be an improvement. They require only 2 watts to drive them. When I ran them with the stock unit, I had to turn down the bass a bit. The EX grade require 10 watts minimum. That is pushing it for a stock headunit.
- Sony headunit - Alpine amps - (4x) Polk components
- Sony headunit - (2x) Polk components
- Stock headunit - (2x) Polk components
- Stock headunit - Stock speakers
